Origin and history

The house in Lodève, in the Hérault, is a 3rd quarter of the 18th century building built on the remains of a 15th century building. The entrance gate, typical of the Montpellieran style, is distinguished by its slits, bypassed consoles and a cartridge adorned with volutes, surmounted by a larmal entanglement. The staircase, with its ramp rolled in a cylinder, and the pentagonal courtyard, accessible by an oblique corridor, testify to a careful architectural planning. flamboyant Gothic elements remain, such as a trilobed dais and pinacles on the northwest facade, a vestige of the medieval building.

The mansion was raised for the family of La Treille de Fozières in the 18th century, partially reusing the old foundations, including a well and a carved decoration of the 15th century. The portal on street, classified as a Historical Monument in 1963, embodies the transition between the medieval heritage and the traditional regional canons. The door to the cellar, the cave mouldings, and the broken arches of the north-west facade highlight this stylistic duality.

The exact location, 6 Grande-Rue in Lodève, corresponds to the address referenced in the Merimée base, although GPS coordinates suggest a proximity to Cardinal Fleury Street. Map accuracy is considered poor (note 5/10), reflecting uncertainties related to urban evolution. The protected elements are limited to the gate on street (cadastre G 688), inscribed for its heritage value and its illustration of the constructive techniques of the eighteenth century.
