Origin and history
This house, located in Lons-le-Saunier in the Jura department, is a typical example of civil architecture of the first half of the eighteenth century. It was rebuilt in the merchant district, a sector that was then dynamic and prosperous, reflecting the economic boom of the city at that time. The building is distinguished by its wooden staircase with balusters, built around the middle of the eighteenth century, as well as by a chimney plate bearing the date of 1725, showing the quality of the works of the era.
Classified as a Historical Monument, this house was partially protected by order of 1 July 1996, covering, inter alia, its facades, roofs, the courtyard staircase and the resting foyer plate. The ground floor, however, underwent alterations in the 20th century, notably for the development of a shop, partially modifying its original appearance. The preserved elements, such as the staircase and the fireplace, remain valuable testimonies of the craftsmanship and way of life of the Lédonian merchants in the Enlightenment century.
The location of the house, at 17 rue Saint-Désiré, places the building in a historic area of Lons-le-Saunier, then marked by trade and commerce. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), based on available data. Although the practical information about his visit or current use is not detailed, his inscription under the title of Historical Monuments underlines his heritage importance for the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region.
