Origin and history

The House of the Angel, located at 14 Kléber Street in Clermont-Ferrand, is an emblematic monument of the city. Built in the 16th century, it is distinguished by its courtyard with a rectangular door topped by a triangular pediment. This pediment has an armored shield, supported by a crest angel, a rare and remarkable symbol for the time. The shield represents an arc held by one hand, accompanied by three roses arranged asymmetrically, two on one side and one on the other.

The Angel Gate was inscribed as a Historic Monument by decree of 17 July 1926, thus recognizing its heritage value. Although the details of its sponsors or its original use are not specified in the available sources, this armored decoration suggests a link to a noble or affluent family of Clermont-Ferrand. The building illustrates the civil architecture of the Renaissance in Auvergne, a period marked by artistic growth and the affirmation of local elites.

No information is available on the opening to the public, the visit or possible contemporary reuse (rent, guest rooms). The location data, although verified, are considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10), which may complicate its accurate identification for visitors. Sources are limited to architectural descriptions and legal protection, without reference to anecdotes or specific historical events related to this place.
