Origin and history

Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Noisy-sur-École is a Catholic church located in the Seine-et-Marne department in Île-de-France. Founded in the 12th century, it is an example of medieval religious architecture, with 13th century elements for its portal and choir, and a nave rebuilt in the 15th century. The building, which belonged to the seigneury of the convent of the nuns of Chelles-Sainte-Bouldour, was classified as historical monuments on 26 September 1923. His elongated plan, with a single ship, converges towards an apse, and his south side served as a presbytery and then as a private house.

The church choir has a double tore vault, while some lancets are now blocked. Among the remarkable elements are funeral slabs, including that of François Pachau (1626), formerly located in the paving of the nave. This engraved stone slab bears a partially erased epitaph, evoking a certain Galet, recipient who died on 16 Oct. 1626. Other slabs, such as those of Chambergeot and La Renommemière, recall the church's ties to local estates.

The church also houses classified paintings, such as Saint Anne and the Virgin and Christ on the Cross with Saint Madeleine, both from the 18th century and inscribed in historical monuments in 1977. Restoration work was carried out in 2012 to preserve this building, still owned by the municipality. Its location, south of the village on Church Square, makes it a central point of local heritage.

Access to the church is via Grande Street, with a south-west facade along the Cure trail. Its history reflects both its spiritual role and its anchor in the seigneurial and community life of Noisy-sur-École, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary era.
