Origin and history
The Church of Saint-Juvin de Loisy-sur-Marne is a parish church in the Marne department in the Grand Est region. It belongs to the parish of Sainte-Marie-de-la-Côte-de-Vergeois, in the diocese of Châlons-en-Champagne. Its current architecture is partly the result of a restoration and enlargement carried out in the 19th century, giving it a neo-Gothic style.
The building houses a wooden statue of Saint Juvin dating from the 16th century, classified as a historical monument. This piece shows the importance of local worship and devotion to this saint. The church also hosted a notable episcopal visit: on 10 March 1683 Louis Antoine de Noailles, bishop-count of Châlons, celebrated a Mass there and administered the sacrament of confirmation to children of the parish.
The major restoration of the church was led by architect Jean François Choisy and completed in 1861, the year of his official consecration on 23 September. This project marked an important step in its history, modernizing its appearance while preserving older heritage elements, such as the medieval statue.
Today, the church of Saint-Juvin remains an active place of worship and a witness to the religious heritage of the Marne. Its history reflects the architectural and spiritual evolutions of the region, from the Middle Ages to the contemporary era.
