Origin and history

Saint Paul Church is a Catholic parish church located in Massy, Essonne department, Île-de-France. It is dedicated to Paul de Tarse, a Christian apostle, and is at the corner of Avenue de France and Avenue des Canadiens. This place of worship is part of an urban history marked by successive transformations since the 1960s.

In 1960, Father Coindreau founded a first chapel on Saint-Paul Avenue in Massy. Four years later, in 1964, this chapel was temporarily moved to a temporary chapel, Saint-Pierre, located in Parc Descartes, because its original location was to be reused for another building. In the same year, the work of a new church began at the current location of Massy's opera. It was consecrated on February 9, 1964 by Monsignor Renard, then bishop of Versailles.

The present church, still in service today, was commissioned in 1990. It thus succeeds several temporary or displaced religious buildings, reflecting the urban and architectural evolution of Massy during the second half of the twentieth century. Its history is closely linked to the changing needs of the local Catholic community and the city's planning projects.
