Origin and history

The Saint Valentine's Church of Guilers is a religious monument located in the municipality of Guilers, in the department of Finistère, Brittany. It stands out as the only church in the region dedicated to Valentine's Day, whose feast is celebrated on February 14. Its architecture adopts a form of Latin cross, typical of the churches of that time.

The history of the church is marked by several phases of construction and restoration. The porch, dating from 1601, and the tower, erected in 1762, are the oldest parts of the building. The church was completely rebuilt in 1884, with the exception of these two elements. During the Second World War, the bell tower was destroyed in 1944 and restored in 1958.

The Valentine's Church is now attached to the Brest Saint Trinity parish. It reflects the architectural and historical evolution of the region, combining old elements and more recent reconstructions. Its heritage reflects both the local religious heritage and the hazards of history, including the damage suffered during the war.
