Origin and history

Saint-Joseph-Saint-Raymond Church is a Catholic church in Montrouge, Hauts-de-Seine. It consists of two parts: the church of Saint Joseph, built between 1962 and 1963, and the chapel of Saint-Raymond, built in 1936 to accommodate 200 faithful. This chapel, of metallic structure and coated, was initially used as a temporary place of worship before the construction of the present church.

The decision to build the church of Saint Joseph was taken in 1955 by Father Bertrand Dufourmantelle, with the support of Jacques Le Saint and the Work of the Cardinal's Buildings. Due to space constraints, the building was oriented north-south, a particularity compensated by a large roof to the east to illuminate the interior. The first stone was laid on 23 December 1962 by Cardinal Maurice Feltin, and the church was inaugurated on 6 October 1963 by Bishop Jacques Delarue and Bishop Guillaume de Vaumas.

Since 2010, the church has been the headquarters of the parish of Saint-Joseph-Saint-Raymond, integrated into the diocese of Nanterre. She shares her pastoral ensemble with two other Montrouge bell towers. The chapel of Saint-Raymond, still in use, houses parish activities such as catechism. The parish also engages in solidarity actions, such as literacy, school support and Dominican breakfasts open to all.

In 2019, a park renovation project was launched, including green spaces, benches and a shared garden. The parish collaborates with charitable associations such as the Catholic Relief and the Saint Vincent de Paul Conference. In 2020, Montrouge had a parish priest and three places of worship, including this church.
