Origin and history

Saint-Rémi-et-Sainte-Preuve Church is a religious building located in Juvincourt-et-Damary, in the department of Aisne. This monument, like many in this region, was deeply marked by the conflicts of the twentieth century, including the First World War, which caused significant destruction in the area.

The reconstruction of the church took place between 1929 and 1933, a period during which many villages in the Hauts-de-France had to recover from the ruins left by the war. This project is part of a broader effort to restore local heritage, essential to communities that saw it as a symbol of resilience and renewal.

The churches in the French countryside traditionally played a central role in the social and spiritual life of the inhabitants. In Juvincourt and Damary, as elsewhere, these buildings served as a gathering place, prayer and celebration of the important events of collective life. Their reconstruction after 1918 reflected a desire to regain a certain normality and to perpetuate local traditions.
