Origin and history

Saint-Riquier de Bénouville is a religious monument located in the commune of Bénouville, Normandy. Although its name evokes a dedication to Saint Riquier, a 7th century Merovingian abbot, the sources available do not specify its date of foundation or the stages of its construction. Its architecture and evolution therefore remain to be studied in more detail.

In the Norman context, parish churches like the one in Benouville played a central role in medieval and modern community life. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, often reflecting the local history and religious traditions of the region. Such buildings were generally at the heart of the social, economic and spiritual activities of villages.
