Origin and history

The building located at 8 rue Cuvier in Montbéliard is a house rebuilt in 1910 by architect Jean Walter, commissioned by Frédéric Blazer Mettey. Designed to house a shop of mercery and fashion, it has a monogram "FB" on the key of the commercial opening arch. The original frontage has now disappeared, while the date and signature of the architect, once visible, are now hidden by subsequent developments.

The protection of this building comes by decree of 27 January 1992, covering specifically the street façade and the roof slope (castre BW 17). This monument illustrates the commercial architecture of the 1st quarter of the 20th century in a city in the midst of industrial change. The oral testimony and the remaining architectural elements (such as the monogram) confirm its initial use and sponsor.

Although the current GPS location points to 12 rue Georges Cuvier, the archives (Mérimée base) and the Insee code (25388) officially link the building to the Doubs, in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, rental) or its internal condition.
