Fronts and roofs on street: inscription by order of 26 April 1971

Origin and history

This building, located in Angoulême, dates from the 4th quarter of the 18th century and the 1st quarter of the 19th century. It is located in a district corresponding to the former hunting reserve of the castle of Angoulême, lotie at this time. Its facade, structured on four floors, is distinguished by the prominent bands separating the levels, as well as by an entrance door surrounded by doric pilasters and surmounted by a decorative key.

The first two floors are pierced with five rectangular bays, the first floor with wrought iron railings. The second floor features prominent supports adorned with protruding circles, while the mezzanine, under a mouled cornice, is rhythmized by canned pilasters. These architectural elements reflect a neat classical style, typical of the urban buildings of this time.

The building is partially protected, with its facades and roofs inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 26 April 1971. Its official address, 9 rue d'Iéna, is located in a historic area of Angoulême, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximate location nearby. This building illustrates the gradual urbanization of the former seigneurial reserve, transformed into a residential area in the 18th and 19th centuries.
