Origin and history
The building at 6 rue de la Prefecture in Dijon is a civil building dating from the second half of the 15th century. This building, typical of the Burgundian architecture of the late Middle Ages, is distinguished by its street façade and roof, protected by a decree of inscription under the title of Historical Monuments since 24 June 1943. Its location, in the heart of the city, reflects the growing urbanization of Dijon at that time, marked by the development of commercial and administrative activities under the influence of the Dukes of Burgundy.
The location of the building, specified in the Merimée base under Insee code 21231 (Côte-d'Or), corresponds to a historical address close to the local power centres. Although available sources (Monumentum) do not detail its original use, this type of construction was often related to residential, artisanal or commercial functions. The period of construction coincides with a phase of prosperity for Burgundy, where civil architecture develops in parallel with major religious and military sites.
The protected elements, namely the street façade and the roof, illustrate the stylistic features of the era, such as the sill windows or the steep roofs in varnished tiles. Registration under the Historic Monuments underscores its heritage value, although practical information about its visit or current use remains undocumented in the sources consulted. The accuracy of its location is assessed as poor (note 5/10), suggesting uncertainties about its exact location or cadastral boundaries.
