Origin and history

The building at 18 rue des Lombards in Nîmes was rebuilt in 1776 during the 4th quarter of the 18th century. It occupies a site already built in the 16th century, but its current structure has not undergone any change since its reconstruction. The facades, spread over three floors, are distinguished by regular drills and wired bays transformed into shopfronts on rue des Lombards. The central balcony, connecting two bays on the first floor, is decorated with floral patterns in volutes and foliage, complemented by pilasters and back panels.

The protected elements include the facades on the streets of Lombards and Orangers, as well as the corresponding roofs, inscribed as Historic Monument by order of 19 March 1965. The right balcony, consisting of two panels in front of each window holder, features a refined decor of single-eyed spiral volutes, typical of the architectural style of the era. The small corner panels reproduce this pattern of multiple volutes, highlighting the aesthetic unit of the ensemble.

The exact address of the building, 18 rue des Lombards, is listed in the Merimée database under the code Insee 30189, attached to the Gard department. Although GPS location is considered to be of poor accuracy (note 5/10), the building remains a representative example of the 18th-century urban habitat, combining commercial function and bourgeois residence.
