Origin and history

The building at 5 rue Traversière in Saint-Étienne is a representative example of early 20th century residential architecture. Built in 1911, it is distinguished by its structure developed on five levels and rhythmized by four spans. The first span, marked by a bowl-window up to the penultimate floor, contrasts with the central spans, pierced by rectangular bays surmounted by curvilinear discharge arches. The last span, on the other hand, presents rectangular bays whose decoration evolves with elevation, reflecting an aesthetic research specific to the period.

The building was entered in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 4 July 2007, including its common parts. This ranking underscores its heritage importance in the urban landscape of Saint-Étienne, a city marked by its industrial history. The location, although specified by an exact address, enjoys a map accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10), according to the available data. Architectural elements, such as decorative arches and bowlow, reflect stylistic influences of the period, mixing functionality and ornaments.

Saint-Étienne, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, was at that time a major industrial pole, particularly in the fields of metallurgy and mining. The buildings of this period often reflect local economic prosperity, with careful architectural details for a rising bourgeoisie. This building, by its design and preservation, offers a tangible testimony of this period, which is the cornerstone between tradition and modernity.
