Door in carpentry on street: inscription by order of 12 February 1925
Origin and history
The building located at 5 rue des Moulins, in the 1st arrondissement of Paris, dates from the 18th century. This building is representative of the Parisian civil architecture of this period, marked by sober facades and interior or discreet decorative elements on the outside, such as the carpentry doors. Although little documented in the available sources, its partial inscription as Historic Monuments in 1925 bears witness to its heritage value, particularly for its gate on street, an architectural element characteristic of the Enlightenment century.
The location of this building, in a central district of Paris, suggests its integration into a neighbourhood that was undergoing urban transformation. The 18th century Paris is a period of population growth and architectural beautification, where private hotels and bourgeois buildings multiply. The narrow streets like rue des Moulins, typical of medieval Paris, see their route preserved while welcoming more modern constructions.
The inscription of the door in 1925 also reflects the growing interest in the preservation of urban heritage at the beginning of the twentieth century, a time when the protection of facades and remarkable elements became a national priority.
