Origin and history
The building in Clermont-Ferrand is a historic monument consisting of two enfilade buildings, separated by a common courtyard. This courtyard lights up a gothic staircase turret, which serves both buildings. A corridor crosses the second building and leads to a second courtyard, whose facade is decorated with Renaissance carved elements, reused for reuse. These elements come from the late 15th or early 16th century, while Renaissance decorations date from the second half of the 16th century.
The main façade is characteristic of the eighteenth century. Among the remarkable details are a lintel decorated with angel musicians (late 16th century) and sculptures of isolated characters. The ensemble illustrates a superposition of architectural styles, the result of successive reuses. The protected elements include the 18th century facade, the Gothic facade with its turret and portal, as well as walls of the second courtyard bearing the lintel of the musicians angels, an atlante and a cariatide.
The building was registered in the Historical Monuments by order of 12 February 1987. Its official address is 22 rue des Gras, although GPS coordinates suggest a location close to the Old Town Street. The accuracy of its location is considered fair (note 5/10), and its current visit or uses (rent, guest rooms) are not specified in the available sources.
