Façades and roofs overlooking the rue du Plat and the quai Tilsitt, the courtyard in its entirety as well as its elevation, the two stairs with their ramp located in this courtyard and the cochère driveway leading from rue du Plat to the courtyard (Box AO 4): inscription by order of 2 March 2006

Key figures

Jean-Pierre Delglas - Adviser to the King and Treasurer of France Sponsor of the buildings in 1766.
Pierre Gabriel Bugniet - Architect Author of the building plans.

Origin and history

The two buildings occupy the location of old houses visible on the earth floor of the Abbey of Ainay in the 18th century. Their construction is the result of an urban initiative marked by bourgeois residential architecture of the time. These buildings, erected in 1766, reflect the social and economic transformations of Lyon, where elites invested in report buildings to generate rental income.

In 1766 Jean-Pierre Delglas, adviser to the king and treasurer of France, built these two buildings on the plans of architect Pierre Gabriel Bugniet. Their neoclassical design is distinguished by a unified facade on street, masking two main houses connected by narrow bodies. The rectangular courtyards, served by cochère aisles, provide access to four symmetrical stairs, while light wells illuminate floors divided into double apartments.

The facades and roofs overlooking Rue du Plat and the Tilsitt wharf, as well as the courtyard with its elevations and stairs, were protected by a registration order in 2006. These architectural elements bear witness to the ingenuity of the 18th century Lyon urban developments, combining functionality and aesthetics. Today, the building belongs to a private company, without information available on its accessibility to the public.

The precise location of this monument is considered passable (note 5/10), with a main address at 8 rue du Plat and 4 quai Tilsitt, in the 1st arrondissement of Lyon. However, GPS coordinates suggest an approximation at 6 rue du Plat in the 2nd arrondissement, highlighting the geographical uncertainties associated with its SEO.
