Key figures

Famille de Ganay - Presumed owner or sponsor Name associated with the private hotel.

Origin and history

Hotel de Ganay was a private hotel located on Rue de l'Arquebuse in Autun, Saône-et-Loire. Built in the 17th century, it was destroyed during the 20th century, leaving as the only vestige its gate, inscribed as historical monument by decree of 7 February 1972. Its current location is occupied by parking.

The gate, the only protected element, is located at 7 rue de l'Arquebuse. It is listed in the inventory of historical monuments under the cadastal reference AI 39. The property now belongs to a private company, and its state of conservation raises questions about the preservation of local heritage.

The Ganay family, mentioned in connection with this monument, is a French aristocratic lineage. Although the source text does not specify their exact role in the construction or history of the hotel, their name remains associated with this missing heritage. The portal, with its characteristic 17th century style, bears witness to the civil architecture of the time in Burgundy.
