Facade and cover: registration by decree of 23 January 1945
Origin and history
The building located at 32 rue Jeanne-d'Arc in Orléans is part of a homogeneous architectural complex, the result of a municipal ordinance of the early twentieth century. This regulation has imposed a uniform height of cornices and headbands, creating visual harmony while allowing a diversity of facades. The objective was to highlight the nearby Cathedral of St. Croix by structuring a coherent urban perspective.
The rue Jeanne-d'Arc, bordered by these buildings, illustrates a strong urban plan, typical of the reconstructions or modifications of the French city centres after the 19th century. Each facade, although stylistically distinct, respects a common scale, reflecting both unity and architectural creativity of the time. The inscription of facades and covers in the inventory of Historic Monuments in 1945 underscores their heritage value.
No information is available on historic occupants or architects who designed these buildings. Their official protection is mainly aimed at preserving the integrity of this urban complex, witness to the policies of beautification and staging of religious heritage in French cities.
