Facade and cover: registration by decree of 23 January 1945

Origin and history

The building located at 37 rue Jeanne-d The aim of this regulation was to standardize the heights of the cornices and of the floor belts, while leaving open the diversity of facades. The objective was to embellish the perspective towards the cathedral, creating a visual harmony despite the variety of styles.

This building, like many on this street, was severely damaged during the Second World War bombings. Despite its partial destruction, its façade and its cover were protected by an order of inscription under the Historical Monuments as early as 23 January 1945, demonstrating its heritage importance in the Orléan urban landscape.

Jeanne d'Arc Street, with its rigorous alignment, illustrates a municipal desire for aesthetic and functional planning. The houses, although stylistically distinct, share a common scale, reflecting a time when urban planning was thought to be a tool for promoting religious and civil heritage. Today, this building recalls both the resilience of the city and the traces of the conflicts of the twentieth century.
