Origin and history

The buildings at number 1, 3, 5 and 7 of rue de Marivaux, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, date from the last quarter of the 18th century. They were built on the site of the former hotel in Choiseul, a building that has now disappeared. This subdivision illustrates the urban planning of Paris at the end of the Ancien Régime, marked by the transformation of private hotels into collective dwellings.

The facades and roofs of these buildings, overlooking the street, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 11 August 1975. This protection reflects their architectural and heritage value, typical of the neoclassical style emerging at this time. Their location in the 2nd arrondissement, then in full transformation, reflects the urban expansion of Paris before the French Revolution.

No information is available on the architects, sponsors or historical occupants of these buildings. Their interest lies mainly in their integration into the Parisian urban fabric and their connection to the history of the hotel of Choiseul, symbol of the 18th century aristocracy. The accuracy of their current location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), based on available geographic data.
