Origin and history
The industrial complex of Noiron-sur-Bèze is a pre-industrial site whose origins date back to at least the eleventh century for the mill, although the present building probably dates from the eighteenth century. This complex illustrates the evolution of industrial techniques before the industrial revolution, with an activity centred around metallurgy and hydraulic force.
The buildings housing the blast furnace, built in 1828, marked the climax of the site, which ceased operations in 1858. The driving force was provided by two wheels with blades, while the spatial organization included a dwelling between industrial buildings and an ore washer (patouillet) upstream. This scheme reflects the integration of domestic and productive activities, typical of pre-industrial ensembles.
The whole, composed of the blast furnace, the mill, the house of dwelling, the island of the patouillet and the bay, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 22 February 2000. This classification underlines its heritage importance as testimony of traditional steelmaking techniques and their territorial anchoring in Burgundy-Franche-Comté.
The location of the site, at Noordon-sur-Bèze in Côte-d Available sources, such as Monumentum, confirm its status as an emblematic monument to regional industrial history.
