Origin and history

The Sévigné Institution of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne is a historical monument whose façade, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, illustrates the classical architecture of this period. The main door, framed with columns, is surmounted by an entably decorated with a carved frieze. Two column cross-sections, each with a triangular pediment and a cut stone cornice, highlight the refinement of its construction. These stylistic details reflect the influence of the artistic currents of the late Renaissance and early classical era in France.

The building was partially protected by an order of 22 August 1949, which inscribed its façade and roof as the Historic Monuments. This official recognition reflects the heritage value of the building, although its precise location, noted as "passible" (level 5/10), may allow some geographical uncertainties to surface. Today, the site belongs to an association, but the information about its access to the public (visits, rentals, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources.

The photographs of the monument, such as that credited to Father Igor under Creative Commons license, allow us to appreciate its architectural characteristics. The approximate address, 7 Rue Saint-Roch in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, as well as its administrative connection to the Corrèze (Department 19) and to the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, anchor this heritage in a territory marked by a rich history, between Limousin and Dordogne valley. No mention shall be made of sponsors or artisans who have worked on its construction or of the original uses of the building.
