Origin and history
The house Janin is a medieval house located in the village of Peruges, in the department of Ain, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Built in the 15th century, it is a typical example of the civilian habitat of this period, with its characteristic facades inscribed as historical monuments since 1925.
Peruges, a preserved medieval village, was at the time a place of passage and important trade between Lyon and Geneva. Houses such as the Janin houses served both as a home and as a place of craft or commercial activity. Their architecture reflects the needs of the local population, marked by a rural economy and regional exchanges.
The building was recognized for its heritage value in 1925, when its facades on the Rue des Rondes and Rue de la Tour were protected by an inscription order. This protection aims to preserve the typical architectural elements of the 15th century, such as openings, materials or spatial arrangements, which bear witness to Peruges' urban history.
