Origin and history
The Maison de Jeanne d'Arc in Bray-sur-Seine is a wooden building dating from the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Its interior organization was modified in the 17th century, while its carved decoration, representing characters, was partially destroyed during the French Revolution. Although his name evokes Joan d'Arc, this name was attributed to him in the 1930s for commercial purposes, without a proven historical link to the emblematic figure.
The facades of this house, located on the streets of Mining and the Remparts, were protected by two registration stops at the Historical Monuments in 1928 and 1996. The house is now owned by the municipality of Bray-sur-Seine, Seine-et-Marne. Its typical architecture of the late Middle Ages, with its mutilated sculptures, bears witness to the political and social transformations of France, especially during the Revolution.
The location of the house, at 4 rue du Mining and 10 rue des Remparts, is documented in the Mérimée base. Although its current use (visits, rentals, guest rooms) is not specified, its conservation reflects the heritage importance of half-timbered houses in Île-de-France. The accuracy of its geographical location is considered very satisfactory, facilitating its identification in the urban fabric of Bray-sur-Seine.
