Origin and history
The chapel of Binans, located in Publy in the Jura, is a religious building built in the early sixteenth century. It is distinguished by its bell tower in the head of a nave, extended by a vaulted choir in a broken cradle. The interior light, rare, comes from windows located at the platform, nave and flat bedside. Remains of painted decorations, with ochre, red and green vegetal motifs, still adorn the triumphal arch, the bedside and the sacristy door.
Over the centuries, the chapel has undergone partial redevelopment or reconstruction in the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is surrounded by a cemetery, highlighting its central role in local community and religious life. The building, classified as Historical Monument in 2012, also includes the cemetery enclosures in its protection. Its location, although documented (125 Rue de la Chapelle), remains unclear according to available sources.
Architecturally, the chapel illustrates the stylistic transitions of the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance. Its broken cradle vaults and flat bedside reflect late gothic influences, while painted decorations testify to a neat local craftsmanship. The property of the municipality now ensures its preservation, although information on its accessibility to the public remains limited.
