Chapel of the God of Mercy, south-east of the apse of the church: inscription by decree of 11 August 1953

Origin and history

The chapel of the Dieu-de-Pitié de Cousolre is a religious building located in the commune of Cousolre, in the department of the North (59), in the Hauts-de-France region. This monument, whose location is considered satisfactory, has been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 1953. It is located precisely southeast of the apse of the church of Cousolre, and belongs to the commune.

Chapels of this type, often linked to local religious practices, played a central role in the community life of villages. In northern France, a region marked by a strong Christian tradition, these buildings served as places of devotion, assembly and sometimes refuge. Their architecture and location often reflected the importance of faith in the daily lives of the inhabitants, as well as their attachment to specific local traditions.

The chapel of the God of Mercy, by its name, evokes a particular devotion, probably linked to a statue or religious representation venerated by the population.
