Origin and history
Rajat Castle was built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Lyon bankers, adopting an architectural style inspired by Louis XV. Although conceived as a resort residence, its appearance resembles that of a large seigneurial house, with two square turrets surrounding the main building. The estate extends over 20 hectares, planted with century-old trees, and now houses modern reception spaces, including an orangery added in 2019.
From 1975 to 2016, the castle was run by Rajat's intercommunal union, created to buy the estate from the Salesian Brothers, a religious congregation that had established a charitable institution for poor children there since an earlier date. After the union was dissolved, the commune of Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu took over its property. The castle is now operated as an event venue, welcoming weddings, seminars and corporate parties, managed by Places of Events.
Located on the border of two departments (Rhône and Isère), the castle is crossed by the administrative boundary between Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu and Heyrieux. Its access is via the old national road 518, now departmental, and a dedicated communal road. The park, open to the public, and the three 150-seat parking spaces complete the infrastructure of the estate, which combines historical heritage and contemporary use.
