The facades and roofs as well as the Romanesque chapel and ramparts: inscription by decree of 27 September 1948

Origin and history

The château de Chandieu is a historic monument located in the commune of Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu, in the Rhône department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This site is particularly remarkable for its protected architectural elements, including facades, roofs, Romanesque chapel and ramparts. These parts of the castle were inscribed by ministerial decree on 27 September 1948, attesting to their heritage value and historical importance.

The castle is part of a regional context marked by a rich history, where fortified or religious buildings often played a central role in the social and economic organization of local communities. In Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu, as in many communes in the region, these monuments served as points of assembly, protection or places of worship, reflecting the needs and aspirations of people throughout the centuries.
