Origin and history
Ferrières Castle, located in Sulniac in Morbihan, is a 16th-century building built in the Louis XIII style. It stands above Ferrières Creek, close to the hamlet of Kerhouarn, and marks the landscape with its local granite architecture. Today, partially in ruins, it preserves carved elements such as openings, an armoured pennon and chimneys, as well as chevronière crawlers on its western facade.
The castle belonged to the family of Rosmadec, a Breton noble lineage. During the 19th century, landslides degraded its structure, but its remains have remained protected since their inscription to historical monuments in 1929. The decree of 16 February 1929 specifically covers the remains of the castle, including ground architectural elements and interior decorations such as chimneys.
Although the castle is no longer in good condition, it illustrates Breton seigneurial heritage and 16th century local craftsmanship. Its location, 3.6 km east of the centre of Sulniac and 5.3 km from Questembert, makes it a historical point of interest in the district of Vannes. Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its heritage importance despite its approximate location (accuracy noted at 5/10).
