Origin and history

The Château de la Cour de Fontenille, located in Brosses in the Yonne, is a 3rd quarter of the 18th century building built in 1756. It consists of a main house on one floor and a top, topped by a four-paned roof, as well as two commons arranged in an asymmetrical way. The estate, still intact at the end of the 18th century, was an important agricultural complex, reflecting the rural organization of the time.

The castle is linked to two historical figures: Marie de Blosset, mentioned in 1570, from an influential Protestant family in Yonne and Nièvre, and the Firmin Didot family, renowned publishers, owners of the estate in the 20th century. These elements underline its roots in local history, between religious heritage and printed culture.

Ranked Historic Monument by order of 8 January 2013, the castle includes in its protection the terrace and adjacent plots. The landscape architect Count de Chulot is associated with its layout, although its exact role is not detailed in the sources. The estate thus illustrates the evolution of rural Burgundy properties, between agricultural function and architectural heritage.

Today, the castle retains a precise location (noted 7/10), with a confirmed address: 179 La Cour de Fontenille, 89660 Brushes. Its current state (open to the public, services) is not specified in the available sources, but its recent listing reflects its recognized heritage value.
