Origin and history

Urbillac Castle is a building located in the municipality of Lamastre, in the department of Ardèche. Although little precise information is available on its history or architecture, its presence marks the local landscape and is part of the built heritage of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. In this rural area, castles have often played a central role in the social and economic organization of surrounding communities.

They served as defence points, seigneurial residences or symbols of power, while participating in the structuring of local territories and agricultural or artisanal activities.
