Origin and history
The Troyes music kiosk, located on Lebocey Street, was built during the 4th quarter of the 19th century. This monument, typical of the urban leisure architecture of that time, reflects the importance attached to music and public gatherings in the rapidly expanding French industrial cities. Its style and location make it a central element of the Troyan landscape.
Listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 29 October 1975, the kiosk is now protected for its heritage value. It was designed under the direction of VERMOT, the project manager whose name is associated with its realization. Owned by the municipality of Troyes, it illustrates the involvement of local authorities in preserving cultural and convivial spaces.
At the end of the 19th century, music kiosks played a major social role in cities. They served as a meeting place for concerts, local festivals and community events, thus strengthening social cohesion. In the context of Champagne-Ardenne, a region marked by a dynamic economy linked to textiles and trade, these structures also symbolized a form of modernity and cultural openness.
