Origin and history

The church of Annunziata de Lumio is a religious monument located in the municipality of Lumio, Corsica. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its construction period or the circumstances of its foundation. Current internal data do not allow to trace its architectural evolution or its precise historical role in the region.

The Corsican churches, like the one of the Annunziata, were traditionally central places for local communities. They served not only as a framework for religious practices, but also as gathering points for the inhabitants. In an island context marked by a social organisation often rural and activities related to agriculture, livestock farming or fishing, these buildings played a role both spiritual and social, reflecting the cultural identity and traditions of Corsica.
