Origin and history

The church Saint-Pierre de Jarrier, located in the Savoie department, is a historic monument registered since 1990. It is distinguished by its ceiling with ground caissons, a rare example in Savoie of a type of covering typical of village chapels of the early sixteenth century. This ceiling, of an unusual scale for the region, reflects a wider, though local, artistic influence.

The building underwent several phases of restoration, including partial reconstruction in the 17th century, followed by enhancement in 1703. These works preserved ancient architectural elements while adapting the church to the liturgical needs of the time. The current structure thus retains traces of these successive interventions, mixing medieval heritage and Baroque modifications.

At the end of the 19th century, the interior of the church was completely redecorated under the direction of the painter Prarioz. Among the most notable additions is a copy of Raphael's Transfiguration, painted in 1875 on the hexagonal dome of the choir. This decoration, typical of the eclectic restorations of the era, aimed to embellish the sacred space while inspired by classic models.

Today, Saint Peter's church illustrates both the evolution of construction techniques in Savoy and the artistic trends that marked its history from the 16th to the 19th century. Its inscription as a historic monument underscores its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its preserved interior decor.
