Origin and history
Saint-François-de-Sales Church is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés in Val-de-Marne. Originally, this concrete building was a simple chapel, designed to meet the spiritual needs of the Adamville neighbourhood, created in the late 19th century. Today, it is part of the diocese of Créteil and constitutes one of the three starting points of the pilgrimage of Notre-Dame des Miracles, stressing its importance in the local tradition.
The history of this church is closely linked to the urban development of its neighbourhood. It experienced several phases of expansion, notably in 1907, then in 1918 with the addition of collaterals according to the plans of architect Guillemot. Finally, a bell tower was erected in 1925, marking the completion of its transformation into a fully-fledged church. These changes reflect the demographic and religious evolution of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés in the early twentieth century.
Although modest in its concrete architecture, Saint-François-de-Sales Church plays a central role in the community and spiritual life of the city. Its integration into the pilgrimage of Notre-Dame des Miracles makes it a place of Marian devotion, attracting faithful and visitors in a historical and contemporary setting.
