Church (Cd. AC 2): registration by decree of 13 December 1982
Origin and history
The church of Saint-Quentin de Mathaux is a religious building located in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. Built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it is distinguished by its wood-paned structure, typical of the Pays du Der. This type of wood construction, often associated with rural areas, reflects local craft techniques and resources available at that time.
The church was registered as historical monuments by order of 13 December 1982. This protection recognizes its heritage value and importance in the architectural history of the region. It is now owned by the commune of Mathaux, which ensures its preservation and maintenance for future generations.
In the 18th century, rural churches like Mathaux played a central role in community life. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, strengthening social and cultural ties. Their architecture, often modest, was adapted to the means and needs of small municipalities, while integrating stylistic elements specific to their times.
The sources available, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, underline the importance of this monument in the religious and architectural landscape of the Aube. Its listing in the inventory of historical monuments allows to document and protect this heritage, while offering visitors a tangible testimony of local history.
