Origin and history

The Petit Pavillon d'Annapes, also known as a hunting lodge, is a 17th-century building located in the Parc du Héron in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, northern department. Built in 1685, it was originally used for the veneration and stewardship of hunting. It was built in a swampy estate used as a grazing and hunting area, and then built by the Brigode family, which had been in Flanders since 1623. Later, it became the property of the Geoffroy family of Montalembert.

Made with traditional local materials, its facades are made of bricks and limestone blocks of Lezennes. The pavilion is crossed by a tributary of the Brand, the Master-David current. In 1951, its facades and roofs were included in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments.

Over time, the pavilion was given to Villeneuve-d'Ascq in 1982. A school yard, entrusted to the Companions du Devoir in 1983, allowed its restoration. Until 2019, it housed the natural relay of the Val de Marque, managed by the ecoguards of the Espace Naturel Lille Métropole.
