Origin and history

The cross of Hemonstoir is a cross of road located on rue Georges-Divenah, 50 meters east of the church, facing the old presbytery. It consists of a cornice base, a moulded base, a drum in two parts and a carved cross. On its north face is a group of the Crucifixion, while its south face probably represents Saint Arnoult, patron saint of the parish. This monument, dated from the seventeenth century, is already present at its present location on the cadastre of 1829.

The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by order of 27 March 1926. It belongs to the municipality of Hemonstor, in the department of Côtes-d的Armor, in Brittany. Another cross, visible on the same cadastre from 1829 to a few tens of meters northeast, has now disappeared. This type of monument often served as a religious and social landmark for local residents.

The cross of paths, frequent in Brittany, marked the journeys of pilgrims or processions. They also played a role in daily life, as a gathering or prayer point. Their iconography, often linked to the passion of Christ or local saints, reflected the beliefs and traditions of the rural communities of the time.
