Origin and history

La Croix de intersection de La Brosse-Montceaux is a monument located in the municipality of the same name, Seine-et-Marne (77), in the Île-de-France region. This type of cross, often erected at road intersections or near churches, served as a landmark for travellers and pilgrims, while marking a place of devotion for local inhabitants. Although its exact period of construction is not specified, its registration in 1946 reflects the heritage importance recognized by the authorities.

Crosses were central to the life of French rural communities. They often symbolized divine protection on roads and places of passage, while playing a social and religious role. In Île-de-France, these monuments were frequently associated with parish churches, strengthening their function as a gathering point for ceremonies or processions.

Their presence also reflected the spatial organization of villages around traffic routes and places of worship.
