Origin and history
The Courtyard of the Dimes of Bergheim is a historical monument located in the Alsatian municipality of Bergheim, in the Haut-Rhin department. This building, probably dating back to the 16th or 17th centuries, is distinguished by its Renaissance architecture, including a gate in the heart of the city and a door decorated with composite pilasters. Its style reflects the artistic influence of the period, mixing elegance and functionality.
The building is located at 57 Rue des Vignerons, in the historic heart of Bergheim, a city marked by its wine and medieval past. Since 1947, the Court of the tithes has been included in the inventory of historical monuments, recognizing its heritage value. This type of building, often linked to the collection of tithes (ecclesiastical taxes), bears witness to the social and economic organization of the Alsatian countryside in modern times.
Architecturally, the Court of the tithes is singularized by its Renaissance portal, characteristic of the prestige civil constructions of the period. The door, at the ends bent and supported by composite pilasters, illustrates the know-how of local artisans. These decorative elements, though modest, underline the symbolic importance of the place in the community, probably linked to the management of agricultural or religious resources.
