Origin and history

La Chevance du Perret is a historical monument located in Villevieux, in the Jura department (39), Burgundy-Franche-Comté. From the 18th century, this agricultural estate consists of a rectangular house flanked by two two-storey quadrangular towers, as well as farm buildings, a pigeon house, and a landscaped complex including park, orchard and vegetable garden. The avenue crossing the wood leads to a forecourt bordered by the commons, illustrating a spatial organization typical of the affluent rural properties of the era.

The house body retains remarkable architectural elements, such as a vaulted cellar on the ground floor, a kitchen, a dining room, as well as bedrooms and a living room on the floors. The facades and roofs of the communes, the pool, the walls and the gates have been protected since the inscription of the monument by decree of 24 December 2008. The official address, 127 rue Perret, and approximate GPS coordinates (19 Rue Henri Molard) confirm its anchoring in the village of Villevieux, near Lons-le-Saunier.

This type of money reflects the way of life of 18th-century landowners in Franche-Comté, where agriculture and livestock played a central role. The buildings, combining residential and agricultural functions, bear witness to a marked social hierarchy, with spaces dedicated to masters (logis, living room) and productive activities (farm, orchard). The presence of a pigeon tree, symbol of seigneurial privilege, underscores the high status of the occupants.

The location of the Chevance, south of the church of Villevieux, suggests integration into the village fabric, while affirming a certain social distance. The protected elements, such as the pool or portals, reveal attention to the autonomy of the domain (water, fence) and its aesthetics. Today, the monument, although partially located with poor precision (level 5/10), remains a representative example of the rural heritage of Comte.
