Origin and history

The Hotel de Baleste, located in La Teste-de-Buch in Gironde, is a historical monument dating back to the 18th century. Originally, it belonged to Gérard de Caupos, Baron d'Andernos, before passing into the hands of the Portiers, a family of seafarers, from the beginning of the eighteenth century. The latter have undertaken significant improvements and restorations, shaping the current appearance of the building.

The property retained its architectural character until the 19th century, when the Portiers remained owners. The hotel was registered in the Historical Monuments by order of 19 April 2004, thus protecting the entire structure (cadestre AP 87). Today it belongs to a private company, and its current use (visits, rentals, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources.

The building embodies local maritime history, reflecting the importance of port activities and families of navigators in the region. Its architecture and transformations reflect the social and economic evolutions of La Teste-de-Buch between the 18th and 19th centuries.
