Origin and history

The Vavasseurie-au-Cerf is a farm built between the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. Located in Vendeuvre in Calvados, it belongs to the family Le Paulmier, local lords, from 1585. Its architecture reflects the characteristics of the seigneurial farms of this period in Normandy.

Some elements of the farm, including the facades, roofs and chimneys on the ground floor and the first floor, were listed as historical monuments by order of 22 February 1980. This classification reflects the heritage value of this site, linked to the history of the Lords of Vendeuvre and Norman rural architecture.

The farm illustrates the way of life of noble families and their dependents in modern times, where farms played a central role in the local economy. Its state of conservation allows us to study the techniques of construction and the spatial organization of the seigneurial farms of that time.
