Feudal motte (Case AE 148): entry by order of 24 December 1991

Origin and history

The feudal motte of Labry is a medieval monument located in the municipality of Labry, in Meurthe-et-Moselle, in the Grand Est region. This type of structure, characteristic of the Middle Ages, generally served as a defence point or seigneurial residence. Its architecture, often composed of an artificial mound surrounded by ditches, reflects the military and social techniques of the feudal era.

In the Middle Ages, feudal mottes played a central role in the territorial organization and protection of local populations. They were often associated with seigneuries and served as the basis for controlling the surrounding lands. In regions such as Lorraine, these buildings were strategic in defence against invasions or local conflicts.

The Labry Mot, listed as a Historic Monument, illustrates this architectural and historical heritage still visible today.
