Origin and history
The Lavoir de Bierry-les-Belles-Fontaines is a building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Yonne, Burgundy-Franche-Comté. This monument, typical of the buildings dedicated to collective laundry, reflects the social and hygienic practices of the 19th and 20th centuries in French rural areas. Its architecture and spatial organization were designed to facilitate laundry washing, often a collective and feminine task.
