Origin and history

The lime ovens of Parné-sur-Roc were built in 1817 by René Fournier and Michel Bruneau, marking the beginning of an industrial activity dedicated to the production of lime. This site, originally composed of two furnaces, gradually expanded to meet the growing needs, illustrating the economic development of the region in the 19th century.

In 1859, Jules Ricosset, then a supplier, had a house built on the site, enlarged two years later in 1861. This period also saw the addition of two new ovens in 1867, followed between 1870 and 1872 by the construction of six houses for workers and a forge, reflecting the social and technical organization of the period.

Around 1880, two additional furnaces were added, consolidating the importance of the site. Together, including the ovens, facades, roofs of the workers' houses, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 22 March 1983, thus recognizing its heritage value and its role in local industrial history.
