The Logis and the barn that accompanies it, in full (Box ZL 4, cf. plan annexed to the decree): inscription by order of 10 December 2014
Origin and history
The Logis de Biard and its barn, located in Chevillé in the Sarthe (Pays de la Loire), date from the 1st quarter of the 16th century. This monument illustrates the rural and seigneurial architecture of this period, with elements typical of the buildings of the era, such as the houses accompanied by agricultural outbuildings. The ensemble was registered in the Historical Monuments by order of 10 December 2014, thus protecting the house and barn in full.
At the time of its construction, at the beginning of the 16th century, the region of the Pays de la Loire was marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Homes such as Biard's often served as residences for local lords or wealthy families, while integrating spaces dedicated to agricultural activities, reflecting a still largely rural economy. These buildings played a central role in the social and economic organization of the countryside, sheltering both owners and production tools.
The location of the monument, specified as Chevillé (code Insee 72083), is considered satisfactory, with an approximate address indicated as '5149 Biard'. Although the practical information on current visits or uses is not detailed in the available sources, its recent ranking demonstrates a recognized heritage interest in this type of building, representative of the built heritage of the Sarthe.
