Origin and history
The Girouardière manor house, located in Poison en Mayenne (Pays de la Loire), is an emblematic building of the 16th and 17th centuries. Built 600 metres east of the village, it was rebuilt in the 17th century by the Hardouin family, local lords since at least the 15th century. The present house is the result of works carried out in 1525 and at the end of the sixteenth century, supplemented by commons, a chapel and a bread oven. In 2002, it was added to the Historic Monuments as a sign of the influence of the Hardouin, Marquis and Counts, who abandoned the site in the 18th century.
The land of the Girouardière was a fief dependent on the Aunay, owned by the Hardouin as early as 1360. This family, carrying money to the fascice of Gules, extended its power over several domains, including the Château du Pin de Préaux. In the 18th century, the last lords settled in Souligné-sous-Ballon and Chantenay-Villedieu. The chapel housed a marble bas-relief (1791) representing Transeat a me calix isle, while the site retained remains of its defensive system.
Anne de La Girouardière, born in 1740 in Chantenay-Villedieu, founded the Baugé Incurables Hospital in 1786. The mansion, occupied by merchants like René Allaire (1760), also illustrates the rural life of the period. Its inscription in 2002 protects the house, the chapel, the bread oven and the north tower, as well as the facades of the communes and the archaeological traces of the old defenses.
